What is EFT?

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique. EFT is a meridian based energy shifting and re-balancing technique. The EFT process is based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine's energy system. Over 5000 years ago, the Chinese mapped out the subtle energies that move throughout the body. The EFT process is similar to acupuncture except the meridian points on the body are stimulated by tapping with the fingertips instead of using needles.

Gary Craig, the creator of the Emotional Freedom Technique, states in his EFT Manual, “EFT is based on the discovery that imbalances in the body’s energy system have profound effects on one’s personal psychology. Correcting these imbalances, which is done by tapping on certain body location, often leads to rapid remedies.”

EFT helps release and shifts the energy imbalances that we have acquired throughout our lifetime.

Our energy systems become disrupted and imbalanced by strong negative emotions, traumas and unresolved issues that leave lasting impressions on our energy systems. Excessive fear, anxiety and stress also disrupt our energy systems.

EFT works exceedingly well to release the negative emotions left over from past memories. The technique also can be used to instill beliefs that support us in moving forward. The downloads available on this web site typically incorporate a combination of releasing negative feelings or emotions, as well as, instilling or activating positive feelings or behaviors.

How did EFT come to be?

EFT was developed by Gary Craig, a Stanford Engineer out of his work with Thought Field Therapy™ developed by Roger Callahan, Ph.D. Gary Craig contends that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system. He learned that tapping on the body's energy system, while focusing on the negative emotion or experience, would relieve the disruption. As he worked with Dr. Callahan’s information, he found it could be distilled down into an easy to learn, simple to apply and effective technique. Gary Craig offers a free 79 page downloadable e-book that explains the EFT process in detail at www.emofree.com.

How effective is EFT ?

The effectiveness of EFT depends on the specific issue being addressed and the number of supporting aspects to that issue. Single issue fears, such as, fear of heights, fear of flying, fear of spiders, etc., frequently have only one or two triggering events tied to that fear and may be eliminated quickly. Broader issues such as money, weight and self esteem may take patience and persistence to shift because our thoughts and beliefs about them began forming at a very early age. Broader issues may have layers of experiences, events and patterns of behavior tied to the issue. Frequently, our negative beliefs and patterns of behavior are reinforced year after year. It can take patience and persistence to address the many supporting aspects, one by one, until the issue you are working on is collapsed or shifted. Fortunately, the time it takes to shift an issue with EFT is considerable shorter than with conventional therapies and counseling.

EFT is a very self empowering tool that anyone can use. Many people have success using the technique on themselves with just a basic knowledge of the process. If you do not experience a shift in your perception or emotional intensity around a negative experience using the technique, please contact me or consult with a trained EFT practitioner to discuss your particular situation. Be aware that complex issues involving severe emotional or physical traumas and are best treated under the guidance of a licensed professional.

Does EFT work for everyone?

No process, technique or treatment works for everyone. Look at how many diets are out there. That being said, EFT has produced such significant results, with such a large number of people, it has become a very compelling technique to explore and experiment with.

If an individual does not experience results, there are some avenues to investigate. Allergies and sensitivities can prevent the EFT process from working. Excessive psychological resistance to letting go of the issue at hand can result in no change also. Fortunately, allergies, sensitivities and resistance can be addressed and release with the EFT process. Sometimes it takes good detective work to identify the underlying problem, but with patience and persistence a remarkable number of people achieve results with EFT.

Is EFT safe to use?

EFT is very safe to use. Rarely are there any negative side effects. Sometimes negative feelings and emotions are brought up and expressed. Actually, acknowledging and releasing these feelings with EFT may be the cornerstone of healing the particular issue at hand. Unacknowledged feelings and emotions are often the cause of the inner conflict one experiences. EFT makes it easy to tap away any discomfort associated with any issue being addressed.

EFT does not erase any memory or cause memory loss. It allows you to recall uncomfortable memories without the emotional upset.

EFT does not remove necessary fear and common sense. If you have a fear of water and use EFT to release that fear, you will not automatically jump into the deep end of a pool without knowing how to swim.

As with anything else, take responsibility for your health and well-being. If you have any concerns or questions about using EFT, please contact me or consult with a trained professional to discuss the appropriateness of using this process to treat your issues.

Individuals with severe psychological or serious health problems should not use EFT without
consulting their personal health care professionals.

Why did you create EFT downloads.com?

EFT downloads.com was created out of the needs of my clients to have supporting material to use between and after our coaching sessions. My clients love the EFT process and its effectiveness, but they would tell me repeatedly how they struggled to come up with the proper wording, so they were reluctant to use the process on their own and "do it wrong".

Since I believe this is one of the most amazing self-help tools available, I decided to create EFT scripts and audios so clients could just relax and go though the process without worrying about coming up with the proper wording.

I then decided to make the information available to anyone who is interested in empowering
themselves with this revolutionary tool for personal transformation. The downloads are for
individuals interested in taking responsibility for their own health and well-being.

Do I need to be familiar with EFT to benefits from the downloads?

I have included the essential information about EFT with each EFT download so anyone can use the material. As with anything new, there is typically an adjustment period in order to get familiar and comfortable, so expect the same with EFT. Tapping on meridian points on your body may seem weird and awkward at first, so you may need to use the process several times in order to feel relaxed and comfortable with it.

Everyone new to EFT is encouraged to educate themselves about the technique in order to get the most value. Visit my EFT Tips & Tricks Blog for the latest tips, tricks and information to enhance your experience with EFT. You are also invited to contact me if you have any questions, or would like to set up a complimentary 30 minute conversation to discuss your particular situation and answer your questions.

Should I choose a written script or an audio?

The EFT downloads are available as written scripts and audio recordings in order to accommodate both visual and audio learners. The written scripts are portable and allow you to easily adjust the wording in order to make the session more personal and appropriate to your situation. The audios are great if you just want to sit back, relax and be guided through the process and you can still change the wording as you go along. The written scripts may be a better choice if you have a slow internet connection as the audios take longer to download.

The choice you make depends on your particular preference and learning style. You can always choose both.

How often should I use EFT?

There are no set guidelines for how often to use EFT.  I suggest to my clients that they adopt the EFT process as a lifestyle change and use it everyday to clear or instill whatever is up for them at the moment. Some suggestions for using EFT are listed below.

  • Spend 5 to 15 minutes in the morning instilling the beliefs or behaviors that you need or want to experience that day. Are you looking for more confidence, more energy, more creativity, etc.?

  • Spend 5 to 15 minutes each evening clearing out any negative emotions or experiences from the day in order to feel relaxed and ready for a good nights sleep. Do you need to release tension, anxiety, anger, sadness, etc.?

  • Use EFT throughout the day whenever anything upsetting or challenging comes up. The sooner you release the negative feelings and emotions the better.

  • Set aside longer periods of time to work on clearing issues from the past that are still emotionally upsetting or experiences that you believe are limiting you in your current reality.

Bottom line…establish a routine that works for you.
